IntroductionSaudi VAT, or Value Added Tax in Saudi Arabia, is a consumption tax that came into effect on April 1, 2018.

VAT is a tax levied based on the added value of goods or services. It is generated at every stage of the transaction of goods or services and is ultimately borne by the final consumer.

How to declare Saudi VAT

1. Prepare the required information for declaration

Before starting Saudi VAT declaration, companies need to prepare relevant financial and transaction records. This includes but is not limited to:

Sales report (including data report on the platform)

Import bills

Purchase invoices and invoices sold to customers, etc.

Make sure all records are legible and organized in chronological order.

2. Log in to the tax bureau website or designated system

Log in to the company's account using the online platform provided by the Saudi Tax Authority (GAZT) or the designated tax service system (such as Eurotax, etc.). Different systems may have different login methods and interfaces, but usually require the company's tax number and password.

3. Select the declaration cycle

Choose the appropriate declaration cycle according to the schedule specified by the tax bureau. Generally speaking, companies with annual sales of more than 40 million Saudi riyals need to declare monthly, while companies with annual sales of less than 40 million Saudi riyals can declare quarterly.

4. Fill in the declaration form

Find the corresponding declaration form on the online platform and fill in the necessary information. This information usually includes sales, purchases, tax payable, etc. Make sure the information filled in is accurate, because incorrect declarations may result in tax problems or fines.

5. Calculate taxes

Based on the data filled in, the system will automatically calculate the VAT payable. Enterprises need to carefully check the calculation results to ensure that they are accurate.

6. Check information and submit the declaration

Before submitting the Saudi VAT declaration, enterprises need to carefully check the information filled in to ensure that there are no errors or omissions. Once confirmed to be correct, you can click the Submit button to submit the declaration form to the tax authority. After submission, the system usually generates a confirmation message indicating that the declaration has been successfully received and recorded.

7. Pay taxes

After the Saudi VAT declaration form is submitted, the system will generate the amount of tax payable. Enterprises need to pay taxes within the specified time through bank transfer or online payment according to the information provided by the system. After completing the tax payment, the enterprise may need to upload a tax payment voucher as proof.

Things to note when filing VAT in Saudi Arabia

1. Saudi VAT declaration must be made on time, otherwise you may face fines or other legal consequences.

2. Ensure the authenticity and accuracy of all declaration materials and avoid providing false information.

3. During the declaration process, you may need to use professional tax software or systems to assist in completing the declaration.
